Our Facilities

Ask Paul why he moved to Lambourn and his answer is emphatic – the gallops.

“To me if you don’t have good gallops it’s very difficult to train horses properly,” he says.

He has two yards: his main training operation at Felstead Court which has 41 modern boxes and a further 20 boxes just up the road at Hill House Stables.

Assistant trainer Jo Hughes said: “ The Hill House set-up is a completely different environment which we use to give our horses an opportunity to relax in large turn-out paddocks. It also has the benefit of an isolation unit.”

They are fortunate to be just two minutes from the Valley Equine Hospital, run by leading specialists, The Ridgeway Veterinary Group, Upper Lambourn.

Paul cannot emphasise enough that every horse at Felstead Court is treated as an individual and not a number.

“Here the horse counts. We recognise that our owners really care for their horses and they trust us to do the same. Jo and I work well together. We spend time discussing and trying to work out every horse’s individual needs,” added Paul.

Other facilities at Felstead Court include a five-berth horse walker, a network of turn-out paddocks and pens, as well as two modern horse boxes.

But it’s the variety of gallops offered by a major training centre such as Lambourn that Paul’s most enthusiastic about.

Lambourn has miles and miles of every conceivable training surface and gradient to cater for the 1,500 so equine athletes resident in The Valley of the Racehorse – grass; Polytrack; Fibresand; rubber and woodchip, and complemented by an extensive network of schooling hurdles and fences, including Grand National style jumps. Paul utilises them all for his growing string of Flat, National Hunt and All-weather horses.
